Farmers Market - The Red Hat.

Farmers Market - Red Hat

8"x6" oil on canvas panel SOLD
Purchase HERE

Artist Note

Every Saturday morning
the market is right outside
my downtown studio.
I have all the reference material
I could ever need.
BUT
this market scene is from a visit to
Santa Cruz, CA.
I needed those striped awnings!
Personal stuff...
After fabulous 16 years
in our Las Cruces, NM home
it is time to move.
Anyone want a beautiful view...
a 1700sq ft studio or workshop.
As well as a 2600 sq ft house?
Oh, yes, and a swimming pool!

I am going to be one busy lady!

  1. The placements of the lights take me right through the painting and back around again. Love this little gem.

  2. And I love this comment. Thanks Blanche.
Are you doing another one with the pears?

  3. Amazing that it is an 8 by 6 inches, so many suggested details, love it! Any chance of you moving to California? :-)

    1. We have a son in CA but, no, not a chance of anywhere but here. I LOVE the desert and having the long view. I feel more open and not hemmed in. Too many trees block the view type of thing. So personal. Maybe because I was raised walking on the moors in England where nothing grows tall.
Thanks for the visit, my dear Padmaja.

  4. Beautiful one, Julie. I was going to comment about the striped awning and then I read down and saw you made your own commentary on it. LOL I hope the need to move is for your own enjoyment.

    1. Thanks, Carol. LOL...the stripes did get in there didn't they?
The need to move is in steps but my hubby's health is the main reason. First step was getting a larger studio downtown so when I lose my home studio I will not fall apart. (I have LOVED that studio.) So I moved into the new one in April/May and that allows me extra space.

  9. Ah Julie this is beautiful. I enlarged it to get a better view...the pinks were what caught my eye and made it travel around the picture. Smiling about your stripes too. Green is the perfect compliment to the red hat. Does sound like you are in for a big change and will be quite busy. Will you be moving closer to your downtown studio? I am sure wherever you go you will blessed sweet friend. xo xo

    1. Good to hear from you, friend. Happy you noticed all those things in the painting. Thank you.
It will be a move to a smaller place in the same city. Small and easy to get round. Nowhere is further than 20 mins, tops!

    1. You would indeed, Jennifer. Although the people raised here seem to do okay. Everything is air-conditioned. You learn when to go shopping etc!
Loved your flying bird! Left handed too - amazing.

  12. Another example of how amazingly much you can contain in 8 x 6 -- astonishing! As with all your colorful farmers' market paintings, this is crammed full of vibrance and vitality. Love it!

How exciting that you're planning a move. Must say that your present home sounds fabulous...but, here's to a new chapter ahead with a different, but equally comfy nest. (After all, you do love your nests!)

  13. I love the subject Julie. This time of the year, when we travel East on Long Island we see so many vegetable stands which reminds me of this painting. I love the colors as well...absolutely beautiful. The best of luck with your move!!!! Living in NM would be a dream come true and I would move out West in a moments notice.... However my husband loves New York and would never leave... Lol

    1. LOL I totally understand about hubby, Hilda, because my husband was born in the West, Jerome, AZ. He would never leave the West.
Your new portrait is a real winner and you realky captured his kindness.
